Enabling Frequency and Voltage Regulation in Microgrids Using Wind Power Plants

چکیده

With higher penetration of renewable energy sources like wind energy, its utilization for the provision of ancillary services in the form of frequency and voltage regulation is imminent. This paper deals with the capability of wind energy to provide these services in a microgrid environment with the consideration of different generation mixes of wind and conventional energy. A novel hysteresis control algorithm is implemented in the wind control system to compensate for the shortcoming of droop control during certain wind conditions. The microgrid model is simulated in Matlab/Simulink environment to compare the system frequencies and voltages with and without the control strategy.
